Scénes de ballet was made on students from the School of American Ballet by Christopher Wheeldon to Stravinsky's eponymous music from 1944 and is Wheeldon's second work for NYCB. The premiere took place on Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at the New York State Theater with costumes by Holly Hynes and set designed by Ian Falconer, a Russian ballet studio with bisected by a "real" barre and an imaginary mirror. 62 SAB students ranging from the very young to those in their last year of study are divided between "real" dancers and their "reflections" in the "mirror".
