From there, the Sheikh flows in predominantly easterly direction through the districts Altdorf, Holzgerlingen, Weil im Schönbuch, Dettenhausen, Walddorfhäslach, Schlaitdorf and Aichtal to look out for passing the southern Betzenberg east of the hamlet of New House in the Aich opens.

The Schaichtal is one of the most close to nature riverine landscapes in the Stuttgart area. Since 23 February 1995, the valley between Dettenhausen and new house is around 8 km long, including there flanks of Betzenberg, oak ridge and Schaichberg as nature reserve Schaichtal[1] reported (NSG number 1,210). The 467.8 hectare area covers the counties Reutlingen, Tübingen and Esslingen. They found here a snail that Desmoulins' whorl snail (Vertigo moulisiana) that in Württemberg was believed lost and has been found only here alive. Lush riverbank vegetation, lakes and ponds characterize the scenic valley, the rare species such as kingfisher, fire salamander and dippers are here at home.

Retention basins Schaichtal

In 1984 Wasserverband Aich planned to dam the Sheikh with a 17 m high dam. The citizens' initiative "Save the Schaichtal" prevented this.

Bike and hiking trails

There are some cycling and walking routes through the Schaichtal, including: Hohenzollernradweg
