The Shenandoah Life Insurance Company is mutual insurance company based in Roanoke, Virginia. Founded in 1916 the company operated until 2012 as a policy holder owned company when it was sold to United Prosperity Life.[1] In 2012 the company was demutualizated into a subsidiary of Prosperity Life Insurance Group, LLC.[2]

Media properties

In 1952, the company launched Roanoke's first television station WSLS-TV on Dec. 11, 1952 with call letters standing for "Shenandoah Life Stations." Shenandoah sold the station to Park Communications in 1959.[3]
