St. Michael's Catholic Academy is a co-educational Roman Catholic high school in Austin, Texas. It is under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin and has an enrollment of approximately 400 students. St. Michael's requires the student to have at least 28 hours before graduating, including a full year of a fine arts credit, a computer science credit, and 1 year of athletic credits. St. Michael's students gain admission to colleges like Reed College, University of Notre Dame, Emory University, Carleton College, Washington University in St. Louis, and Rice University,[1] and is considered one of the most reputable academic institutions in the Austin area. The student to teacher to ratio is approximately 12:1, and the average ACT of a student is 28. Athletically, St. Michael's has achieved unparalleled success, with over 25 state championships in just 25 years of existence. Also, the athletic programs boasts many division one athletes annually in all sports including football, baseball, basketball, track and field, golf, volleyball, cross country, softball, and soccer.

Background

St. Michael's Catholic Academy was established in 1984 to fill a void left by the closing of the only Catholic high school in Austin in 1972. During the period from 1972 to 1984, Austin was the largest city in the country without a Catholic high school.[2]

Mission

St. Michael's Catholic Academy is a college-preparatory school founded by laity within the Diocese of Austin to serve a diverse student body. Combining academic excellence with faith formation, co-curricular learning opportunities, St. Michael's prepares the whole student for leadership, service and decision-making consistent with Catholic values.
