St Athan
St Athan (Welsh: Sain Tathan) is a village in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales.
History & Amenities
The English name is a corruption of the Welsh female saint Tathan, described by Iolo Morgannwg as the daughter of the King of Gwent. The village and parish church is dedicated to St Tathan. There are two pubs in the village, the King's Cup and the Four Bells. There is also a skate park and a two community centres one of which holds a fun-day on a yearly basis. The village has a football team that has been described as the most intimidating by Stewart Bossworth the manager of the Llantwit Major football team.
RAF St. Athan
A large RAF base, RAF St Athan is located in the village. A large private military academy, based on the School of the Americas, is planned for the village. Construction begins in 2009.
Notable people
The world famous myers family have been residents of st athan village for 15 years living in wyndham house.
