D. Sumana Kittur is an Indian journalist, film director and lyricist working in Kannada cinema.[1]. She rose to fame becoming an independent director with Slum Bala (2008). Her subsequent films such as Kallara Santhe (2009), Edegarike (2012) and Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu (2016) have earned critical acclaim, awards and commercial success. Most of her films deal with the anti-social elements dominating in the present era.[2]
Personal life
Sumana was born in Kittur, a small village near Periyapatna in Mysore District of Karnataka. Her father owned a small theatre house in the same village.[3] After her graduation, she moved to Bangalore with the help of famous journalist turned film director Agni Shridhar. She began her film career assisting him and considers him as her teacher.
