TD Tom Davies is a British bespoke eyewear brand, founded by Tom Davies in 2002. Its headquarters are in Mortlake, London.[1]

History

In the beginning, TD Tom Davies offered bespoke glasses designed in one-to-one consultations with Davies personally. In 2008 TD Tom Davies started to offer its bespoke eyewear service to opticians worldwide allowing an optician to design, unique, made-to-measure frames themselves. Production has since moved from England to China.[2] "In 2008 Davies opened his own factory in the hills outside Hong Kong (although he feels the word 'factory' is too industrial, preferring the term 'workshop'). TD Tom Davies frames are the result of an integration of the skills required for handmade craft with an automated ordering process."[3] So far, the company has built up a multinational network of 1494 trained stockists.[citation needed] The company offer an iPad application that assists opticians in the measurement and ordering of the bespoke eyewear.[4]

Flagship Store

In February 2014 The brand opened its Flagship store in London's Sloane Square.[5] The Flagship Store is set out over two floors with the ground floor comprising a showroom and consultation area and the lower floor containing an eye testing suite. The eye testing suite is stocked solely with ZEISS optical testing machinery and is the only private practice in the UK to have all the latest diagnostic equipment available from ZEISS.[6]

Film Work

The glasses Henry Cavill wears as Clark Kent in Batman v Superman:Dawn of Justice are made by British spectacle designer Tom Davies. Apparently the costume designer found most glasses sat too high on Henry Cavill's face because he has a high bridge. They sought out Tom Davies, who makes bespoke glasses, to design a one-off pair of spectacles for the job.[9]
