Taher Shah is a Pakistani singer and music producer.[1] He has a huge cult following,[2] and has been described as "Pakistan’s most spectacular internet celebrity" by Dawn (newspaper).[3] He garnered internet popularity with release of the song "Angel".

Taher Shah (from Karachi) became famous in 2013 when he released his first song Eye to Eye.[2] In an interview, he stated that it took him 30 years to write the lyrics for the song.[4] According to Indian Express, the song achieved "phenomenal success",[5] and according to The Atlantic the song made him an "overnight pop sensation".[6] The song went viral on social media, and a lot of people dedicated their covers to the singer.[7] In 2015, Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan dedicated the song to his friend Ranveer Singh.[8] Ranveer Singh later dubsmashed the song.[9][10]

In 2016, his new video song Angel was released,[11] causing what the BBC described a "social media frenzy".[2] The Twitter hashtag #TaherShah trended in Pakistan, India and the United Kingdom with the release.[2] It became #3 trend in the world, and #1 in India and Pakistan.[12]
