Researching who will insure Amish taxis
[edit]There doesn't seem to be any officially published information about who does or doesn't insure Amish taxis.
So the easiest thing to do is to just simply ask the various major insurers, like State Farm, Geico, Allstate, Travelers, Progressive, etc. Though I am not at all sure how to cite the responses I get from these companies, since it is an email response directly to me. Also, I do not know what companies insure taxis so that I can ask them directly. DMahalko (talk) 12:03, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
=== State Farm .. does not
=== Progressive does!
from: cheri.svehla.hi7n@statefarm.com Please include the following line in any email correspondence regarding this issue: Mr. Mahalko, Thank you for your inquiry into State Farm. We have provided answers to your questions below. If you have any additional questions, please let us know. 1. Does normal personal auto insurance cover vehicles for hire? State Farm Insurance Co. intends to provide coverage to most normal and usual situations involving the transportation of individuals to and from work, school, church, etc. when using a private passenger vehicle. Private passenger vehicles are defined as:
An automobile used for renting or livery work or for carrying passengers for a consideration is not included in this definition.
2. Does State Farm insure taxis or other vehicles for hire? Any automobile used as a taxi cab or in any similar business activity -- whether or not meter equipped is ineligible for State Farm Insurance. Due to the fact, State Farm Insurance Co. is not in this market currently, we do not have information referencing taxi insurers. 3. Is there a special class of insurance to cover people who only occasionally drive the Amish, a special sort of "part time Amish taxi" insurance? We desire to avoid situations where the activities of the driver leave little doubt that they are engaged in the business of transporting passengers for profit (the livery business). |
