Why is this anatomical information so poorly-known among the common man? I think a lot of people get confused when they have little or no subcutaneous fat but still have a "belly." Does anyone have information on why this is such a little-known subject?

it is by far the most difficult fat to lose because it is so deeply embedded within the bodies tissues. it is a cause of cholesterol build up, when the liver metabolizes this fat it is released as cholesterol into the bloodstream. if you have any visceral fat get rid of it right away, run wicked fast on a treadmill for 20 minutes everyday, babes/hunks will be really into you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.184.43.143 (talk) 01:26, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doctors in the past and many currently do not condone a patient being proactive in their own care. People must realize that they do not work for their doctor, but instead, their doctor works for them. Many people continue to keep their doctor on payroll even though their doctor has made many mistakes. The funny thing is an auto mechanic is only allowed one major diagnostic mistake before we seek out another one, yet a doctor can make mistake after mistake and we continue to employ them. One major mistake is the doctor's shunning of a patient's diagnostic research. As patients, we should be allowed to show up at a doctor's office and request diagnostic testing for what we believe is ailing us. Doctors need to understand this. Even most doctors don't know[edit]

Interesting enough in my line of work I meet many doctors with an access of visceral fat. I always wonder what they subscripe to their overweight patients. I work as a nutritionist and have the firm believe that 75% of reduction of visceral fat will come from balanced supplementation, the other 25% we will be reduced by excercising our bodies on a regular program. Creating a healthy active muscle mass works much more effective than any medication. Soon we will be publishing clinical studies to back up this theory.
