What now?

[edit]

What should we do now User:Kleopatra ??? Redirect to Arabian Plate ??? It seems to me that African Shield (Ethiopian Shield) = Western Ethiopian Shield + Eastern Ethiopian Shield (Somali Plate). The ref seems relevant to me. --Chris.urs-o (talk) 07:23, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the map on p. 1310 and the description of the shield in this article. They don't appear to match to me--do you disagree?. You can either change the description in this to match the article, in which case you should then move it to Ethiopian Shield, also; or you can find a source that describes the shield in this article. --Kleopatra (talk) 07:53, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I read the summary. I have no access to GSA. --Chris.urs-o (talk) 08:36, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since this is an unreference WP article, I think the article is the issue and not the ref. I've read more, and as expected, there is a great deal of inconsistency as to what the "African Shield" is. So I'm restoring the ref, changing the wording, and moving to "Ethiopian Shield". Awickert (talk) 09:16, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The source was about the Western Ethiopian shield actually, and the term "African Shield" doesn't relate to any of the papers I saw in my (albeit brief) search. So here I've moved it. There are quite a few other cratonal areas in Africa, and I haven't (and won't until tomorrow or later) search them out on Wiki. Organizing them would be good. Chris: check your inbox for the paper. Thx :) Got all free PDFs citing (Ayalew, Teklewold; Bell, Keith; Moore, John M.; Parrish, Randall R. (1990). "U-Pb and Rb-Sr geochronology of the Western Ethiopian Shield". Geological Society of America Bulletin 102: 1309). Quite difficult to sort out this jungle. --Chris.urs-o (talk) 11:01, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck with it :). Email if you need help; I'll be travelling soon though. Awickert (talk) 01:50, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
