Comments

[edit]

This page could do with being expanded. It’s little more than a “See also” section at present, which makes it a candidate for deletion/merger.
Can I suggest where there are a series of pages on the same subject, they should be in layers of depth. A general page needs just a summary and a link; this needs maybe an overview of the camp structure and its effect; the pages on individual camps should have information specific to them.
A lot of the information on this subject at Occupation of the Channel Islands and Alderney would fit here, but to avoid vain repetition (and, again, deletion) the subject should be expanded, here, or summarized, there. Any thoughts? Moonraker12 (talk) 13:15, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PS I’ve left a note on the Alderney talk page here; can anyone comment? Moonraker12 (talk) 13:18, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, Done. Moonraker12 (talk) 15:07, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Volunteers?

[edit]

Just a question; the text says:
"The Borkum and Helgoland camps were volunteer labour camps" and then says "the labourers in those camps were treated harshly..."
Isn't this a bit of a contradiction? Why would they stay? And doesn't the term "concentration camp" imply some form of coercion in this context? Moonraker12 (talk) 01:02, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

no real "volunteers

[edit]

that line about volunteers does stick in ones craw, does it not? so wrong. i corrected that usage and added a ref.-- diremarc (talk) 05:56, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Crank references

[edit]

The claim that there was a 'death camp' in the Channel Islands is simply a misue of the term. The reference "see Appendix F: Concentration Camps: Endlösung – The Final Solution [3];" leads to a web page that lists the wierdest collection of 'death camps' or crackpottery I have ever seen lumped together. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.226.249.195 (talk) 21:02, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest change of name of article

[edit]

The title suggests that all the camps on Alderney were "concentration camps", when set up, there were 4 camps for OT workers, the same type of work camp as in as in Guernsey, Jersey, France etc. Two of the camps were later moved under the control of the SS and conditions in these two camps then became much worse.

Alderney camps - would be a better title - letting the article explain the differences between them. Ânes-pur-sàng - À la perchoine 13:30, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

No comments from anyone else, its been 3 months, so I will change the name. Ânes-pur-sàng (talk) 07:39, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bad sentence in intro

[edit]

"When a team of specialists came to the island to investigate, the Alderney Government shut it down, saying they wouldn’t allow them to carry on."

This line in the opening paragraph is unsourced. It's also wanting in details as to when and who etc. It should either be sourced and expanded or removed altogether.
