This article is written in New Zealand English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, realise, analyse, centre, fiord) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.

Text and/or other creative content from this version of Local government in New Zealand was copied or moved into Māori wards and constituencies. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists.

Reversals

Recently, the Kaipara District Council has voted to disestablish their Māori ward. Since this may be the first domino triggered by the Government's law change, should we update the table to indicate local councils that have established but since reversed their Māori wards? How do we do it? I think we will probably see more wards being disestablished during the 2025 local elections. I could create a rollback section to chronicle Councils that removed their Māori wards.
