Suggestions for a few pictures…

There are some pictures from the NWS office in Charleston that shows the tornado damage. Definitely fits Wikipedia’s copyright guidelines because it is in the public domain. 108.147.10.55 (talk) 17:57, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

I’ll also add that while very thoughtful on the editor’s part. Most of these pictures don’t really fit with what one would expect to find on a Wikipedia article about a tornado outbreak. And I think these pictures should be replaced with for example pictures of the damage caused by the tornadoes (or if we can find one, a picture of the tornado itself). But I will suggest to whoever put these pictures on here; that while Wikipedia is probably not the best place to put these. They’d be a perfect picture to put on Wikimedia Commons (that is literally the purpose of Commons is a free media repository). 108.147.10.55 (talk) 02:00, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Derecho?

Description on the main Tornadoes of 2024 page says this event included a derecho. Shouldn't the title and contents of this article reflect that? TornadoInformation12 (talk) 11:34, 13 April 2024 (UTC)TornadoInformation12

There was a derecho. There were Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and/or Tornado Warnings from western Virginia all the way back to Missouri. But there were also over 80 twisters. So the tornado part should also be emphasized. Perhaps the article could say “Tornado Outbreak and Derecho of April 1-3, 2024”.

But remember; the derecho was the one that produced bunches of tornadoes; NOT the supercells that formed after the derecho. 108.147.10.55 (talk) 16:50, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Ok good to know. Traditionally, if a severe weather outbreak includes a derecho, it gets included in the title though, so I think we should move the page.

When the article was moved into mainspace, it was a derecho name. This was undone though and moved to the current title roughly two hours after the move into mainspace. So technically, there is a dispute between editors now on whether this should be a derecho name or outbreak name. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 05:52, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Tornado sections

I think a couple tornadoes in this article could use separate sections. The Prospect, KY tornado description is 2,115 bytes long. The Conyers, GA tornado had a section, but was removed sometime when the article was being reworked. Meatballrunfatcat (talk) 21:54, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

This article has some major issues

I guess whoever drafted the article probably drafted this before or during the outbreak; because a lot of the wording is present and sometimes even future tense.

That might have very well been a true statement on April 2nd when the outbreak was happening but it no longer is true now. Yeah, so the weird tense is because some kid made this article BEFORE the event even happened, based entirely on SPC outlooks and hype. He apparently had no idea that this isn't allowed. Gave him a real serious talking to and I can assure you he won't try anything like that again. The derecho element and sheer number of this event makes it notable though, even if underperformed in terms of intense, long-tracked tornadoes.

Times listed are STILL WRONG!

The times listed are still an hour behind. Using West Virginia as an example. The tornado hit the Wayne County area at roughly 10:30AM EDT (which is 14:30 UTC).

If you actually click on the links to the damage survey(s), you’ll find that the local time for many of these tornadoes in West Virginia was around 10:30AM to 11:00AM in the morning. West Virginia is in the Eastern time zone; and the event happened on April 2nd, which meant that daylight savings time was active. So factoring in DST, the correct UTC time conversion is EDT + 4 hours and CDT + 5 hours. I haven’t checked the tornadoes listed in the Central time zone; but whoever keeps converting the times is doing so by only adding 3 hours instead of 4 hours to the EDT time. Eastern time is 4 hours behind UTC; NOT 3 hours. I want this fixed ASAP that way no one is misled by the time listed. 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:E966:B937:5134:55D4 (talk) 06:18, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

1. The entry saying that the article (had) major issues. Including the tense of the article being wrong. They have since been fixed.

2. The entry saying that the UTC times are still wrong; as they have since been fixed.

I tried to remove them myself (not knowing at the time that I had did it wrong); and someone reverted the edit and said it was supposed to be archived. Damage pictures?

Two of the three pictures on this article are of what seems to be things you’d find in a normal thunderstorm (no offense intended); not exactly what you’d expect to find for a tornado outbreak article. Readers want pictures of the damage or pictures of an actual tornado. The pictures from “MemeGod 27” are already on Wikimedia Commons and he himself has said feel free to change them. I would but I can’t because I’m unregistered (and I have no immediate intentions of registering); so I am formally asking anyone who is registered to change the pictures. There are numerous public domain images available from the National Weather Service of the tornado damage.
