Tapestry Opera (formerly Tapestry New Opera Works) is a Canadian opera company, located in Toronto, Ontario in the Distillery Historic District.[1] The company was founded in 1979 by artistic director Wayne Strongman, who was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2009.[2] The resident director is Tom Diamond, a Canadian opera director who also works for the Canadian Opera Company and was a judge/host on the Bravo! Television program Bathroom Divas.[3] In January 2014, Michael Mori was announced as Tapestry's new Artistic Director.

History

Tapestry Opera was founded in 1979 as a madrigal ensemble The Tapestry Singers.[4] In 1986 it renamed Tapestry Music Singers to reflect changes in the company's direction.[4] The company was re-branded as Tapestry New Opera Works in 1999 to reflect its dedication to the creation of contemporary opera, [4] but now operates as Tapestry Opera.
