Tauwhare is a small rural community in the Waikato District on the outskirts of Hamilton. The Waitakaruru Arboretum and Sculpture Park is located here.

There is a Community Committee[2] and a Memorial Hall.[3]

The local Waimakariri Marae and Waenganui meeting house is a meeting place for the Ngāti Hauā hapū of Ngāti Waenganui and Ngāti Waenganui, and the Waikato Tainui hapū of Ngāti Hauā.[4][5]

Demographics

The 2006 census counted the Tamahere and Tauwhare area as having a population of 4,623[6] and 5,628 in 2013. Tauwhere is a part of that area, covered by meshblocks 0957700 and 0958200 with a population totalling 486 in 156 households.[7]

Tauwhare School, a state primary (years 1-6) school.[8]
