"Teamwork" is a song created especially for the stage musical production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It was written by Robert and Richard Sherman in 2001 and premiered at the London Palladium on April 16, 2002. It premiered on Broadway in 2005. In the show it is sung by the Vulgarian children who resolve not to submit to the dungeons of Vulgaria without a fight.

About the song

  • According to lyricist Robert B. Sherman, "This song more than any other in the canon, exemplifies the show's theme. Moreover, if we work together, we can make our dream come true. Caractacus Potts learns to work with others around him. Specifically, he learns to trust Truly Scrumptious. When he does this, then he is able to achieve all the things that had previously eluded him."
  • Producer Fred Zollo commented in the show's liner notes about "Teamwork": "One of the most remarkable experiences of my life was being present in our very own living room at the creation of a brand new Sherman brothers soon to be classic song.
  • The show's choreographer, Gillian Lynne is quoted in the show's liner notes as saying: "...the artistic team knows each other so well and are not afraid of each other's ideas. Perhaps that inspired (the song) 'Teamwork'."
