Too wide by default[edit]

Would it not be better if this template scaled itself to the required width for whatever text was inside of it, with the maximum width being how it appears by default now? It looks strange to see the box taking up so much space with a large amount of whitespace on the right. I don't know how to do such a thing myself, though. I made a sandbox and a testcases page for the template. "width:auto" seems to work, but the template fills the width of the page with too much text. I tried "width:auto" "max-width:50%" as well, but it seems to ignore the max-width one. I also tried "max-width:50%" by itself, but then it got too small. This confuses me. Can anyone assist?
