Template talk:Package management systems

Since there is the template {{Digital distribution platforms}}, wouldn't it be better put everything, that is not an article about some concrete package management system into that navbar? A digital distribution platform that is not fir video or audio but for software, COULD contain stuff to update and maintain your operating system, but it could also be just something to distribute software without bothering with shared libraries or anything else present and part of the operating system. My point is not, that this navbar is too bloated, but that it mixes articles like dpkg with PlayStation Store. There is the article software repository and additionally the article app store. Maybe this navbar should only contain links to pages about software, and not about repositories or "app stores". User:ScotXWt@lk 10:30, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@ScotXW: (Just FYI) The digital distribution platforms template has been split into smaller templates, notably {{Software distribution platforms}}.–Totie (talk) 15:43, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

pacman classification

[edit]

I saw in the template that the pacman package manager was written as "Other", instead of a "tarball-based" package manager, when its packaging format is clearly *.pkg.tar, and I was wondering why that is, or if it is possible to move it to the tarball category. -- TheSola10 (The Mailbox) 08:41, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nix and Guix classification

[edit]

Nix and Guix supports both building the world from source (uncompiled) and downloading binary substitutes from server (compiled). Right now I place them in the compiled category because it's the more popular form of package management, but I'm not sure if it's the right thing. Should I add a new both category?
