Tenesmus
Tenesmus is a term used to describe straining, especially ineffective and painful straining, during a bowel movement or urination.
Types include:
- Rectal tenesmus (when the word "tenesmus" is used by itself, this is usually what is meant)
- Vesical tenesmus
