The Women's Singles tennis competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London will be held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, from 28 July to 4 August 2012, making it the first Olympic grass court tournament since tennis was re-introduced to the Games.[1] The event will be run and organised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF), and will be part of the Women's Tennis Association tour.
All matches will be best of three sets, tie-breaks will be in use for the first two sets of each match.[2]
Elena Dementieva is the reigning champion having won gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.[3] She retired on October 29, 2010, so she will not be able to defend her title.
