Terri Schneider (born June 29, 1961) is a former athlete, motivational speaker, author, coach, and consultant. She has raced and adventured in many countries; as a triathlete for ten years, an adventure racer since the sport's inception in the U.S. in 1995, and dabbled as an ultra runner. |
Terri has shared her personal experiences, through her life as a lesbian athlete, her work as an author, coach, and sport psychology consultant, and as the invited speaker at a long list of local events. She has also been a long time leader in the lesbian community, as an advocate for gay women athletes. |
Terri is from Santa Cruz, California and began running and participating in the Jr. Lifeguard Program when she was 10 years old (at the inception of females into Jr. Lifeguards in CA), later competing in cross country running, track, and Lifeguard competitions throughout high school and college. She completed her first triathlon at age 20 (1982) while in her junior year in college and was immediately intrigued with the sport and in particular the Ironman triathlon. The Ironman Hawaii event in Kona, Hawaii was her 4th triathlon. She went on to race in Kona 10 times, finishing 7 times. |
After receiving her B.S. degree in exercise physiology, Terri worked for a few short months before pursuing a career as a triathlete in 1986. She then segued into adventure racing in 1995, after the realization she would never be a winning triathlete. She has attempted many and finished a few expedition adventure races, many shorter adventure races, Ironman triathlons, a 100-mile trail running race, a multi-day running stage race, and a mountain biking event. Terri planned on racing Ironman Coeur d' Alene in June 2011, but had to withdraw due to inadequate training. Currently she is trying to raise money for a bucket list trip to Bhutan in search of happiness, and to advocate for gay rights in October 2011.
