"Tessellate"
Song

"Tessellate" is a song by British alternative indie pop quartet alt-J from their debut studio album An Awesome Wave (2012). The song was released on 13 July 2012 as the album's third single. The song was written by Joe Newman, Gus Unger-Hamilton, Gwilym Sainsbury, Thom Green and produced by Charlie Andrew. It was covered by English dream pop singer Ellie Goulding and released on the deluxe edition of Halcyon Days (the re-issue of her second album Halcyon, released in 2013). Mumford & Sons also covered the song on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge 2013 album[1] of live performances. "Tessellate" was featured on the show Longmire during a sequence of a Native American man riding a horse facing backwards, wearing a mask and crying about his sister's death. The song was also featured at the beginning of Sons of Anarchy season 6 episode 5.

Music video

A music video to accompany the release of "Tessellate" was first released on YouTube on 9 July 2012 at a total length of three minutes and eight seconds.[2] The video was directed by Ben Newbury[3] and is an artistic reworking of the famous painting The School of Athens by Raphael, using 21st century characters in a room similar to the painting's background (Panthéon, in Paris).
