The Gun were formed in 1967 in London, by Paul and Adrian Gurvitz. After being signed to CBS in early 1968, they scored a massive hit with "Race With The Devil," which was issued as a single in October 1968. The cover art on the album was the first for Roger Dean. Unfortunately they were unable to score any other hits despite releasing other memorable singles such as "Drives You Mad" and a second album. Adrian Gurvitz and Paul later went on to work with Ginger Baker as The Baker Gurvitz Airforce.
