Thode Island

Thode Island (77°2′S 148°3′W / 77.033°S 148.050°W / -77.033; -148.050Coordinates: 77°2′S 148°3′W / 77.033°S 148.050°W / -77.033; -148.050) is a small ice-covered island situated in the Sulzherger Ice Shelf, located 1 nautical mile (1.9 km) northwest of Benton Island and 5 nautical miles (9 km) east of Przybyszewski Island in the Marshall Archipelago. The island was first mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1959-65. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for George C. Thode, electronic technician( ET) and meteorologist at Byrd Station in 1968.
