Tommy Núñez III is the founder of the Tommy Núñez foundation and a former NBA referee. He is the father of former[1] NBA referee Tommy Núñez, Jr. He was born on September 10, 1938 in Santa Maria, California. According to Tim Donaghy during the aftermath of his 2007 NBA betting scandal, he claimed that during the 2007 NBA Playoffs in the Western Conference Semi-finals match between the Phoenix Suns and eventual NBA Finals champion San Antonio Spurs, Nuñez had a major influence on changing the outcome in that particular series, with him having a major disliking for Suns owner Robert Sarver and enjoying the lifestyle in San Antonio and having that series be poorly officiated from the very start until the bitter end of it.[2]
