Travail, famille, patrie
Appearance
Travail, famille, patrie (English: "work, family, fatherland") was the motto of the Vichy France government during World War II. It replaced the republican Liberté, égalité, fraternité of the Third French Republic. Reflecting on the poor conditions during this period of collaborationist rule, the motto was often parodied as Trouvailles, famine, patrouilles, meaning "lucky finds, famine, patrols."[citation needed]
