USS Lexington
Appearance
Six ships of the United States Navy have borne the name Lexington, after Lexington, Massachusetts, where the colonial militia first fought the British in the American Revolutionary War.
- USS Lexington (1776), was a 14-gun brigantine originally named Wild Duck purchased in 1776 and used by the Continental Navy until her capture in 1777
- USS Lexington (1825), was a 24-gun sloop commissioned in 1826 and sold in 1860
- USS Lexington (1861), was a sidewheel steamer converted to a gunboat and used in the American Civil War
- USS Lexington (CC-4), was renamed Ranger on 10 December 1917
- USS Lexington (CV-2), was originally laid down as CC-1, a Lexington-class battle cruiser but converted to an aircraft carrier and commissioned in 1927. She was lost during the Battle of the Coral Sea.
- USS Lexington (CV-16), was commissioned in 1943 and fought in the rest of the Pacific War then donated for a museum ship in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1991.
