Dr. Umar Sulayman 'Abd-Allaah al-Ashqar (عمر بن سليمان الأشقر) was a professor in the Faculty of Islamic Law at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan,[citation needed] who was born in 1940 and died on August 10, 2012. He is not to be confused with Dr. Muḥammad Sulaymān Ashqar.

Biography

Ashqar was a professor in the Faculty of Islamic Law at the University of Jordan.[citation needed] He was previously the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Law at Zarqa Private University, also in Jordan.[citation needed]

Ashqar was born in Nablus in 1940.[citation needed] His family later moved to Madina, Saudi Arabia and he attended the Islamic University of Madinah, where he completed his bachelor’s degree becoming one of the first graduates[citation needed]. He received his master’s and doctorate degrees from Al-Azhar University in Cairo and was a student of scholars such as Ibn Baz[citation needed] and Al-Albani[citation needed]. Ashqar was the author of numerous books on Islam, including the Islamic Creed Series. He died in August 2012.[1]

Views

Ashqar was known for his support of the Muslim Brotherhood[citation needed]. He also claimed that it is obligatory for the Muslim world to support the Second Intifada.[2]
