Understanding is an album by American organist John Patton recorded in 1968 and released on the Blue Note label.[1]

The Allmusic review by Michael Erlewine awarded the album 2 stars and stated "If you like progressive sax, you might be able to stay in the groove. Not me, the sound keeps popping me out. I like to get in the groove and ride".[2]
