Hisao Ōtsuka (大塚 久雄, Ōtsuka Hisao, May 3, 1907 – July 7, 1996) was a scholar who worked in the field of economic history. Through the study of the period in which capitalism was initially established in Europe, he examined present day problems. The field of research he established was named ‘Ōtsuka’s history’ after him, just as ‘Maruyama’s political science’ got named after the scholar Masao Maruyama, and like him he was representative of the democratic movement after the war.
