From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In an orthography as simple as that of the Italian language, who would ever imagine that Italian couldn't be written in a much simpler form? Why shouldn't we test out the boundaries of the Cyrillic script? Well, Italian orthography is not as simple as it seems, and it has its major inconsistencies. For example, z can imply both a ts or a dz sound, while s can imply both a s and a z sound. But, for the most part, Italian is great written in the Latin script; after all, there are patterns which determine whether, say, you'll pronounce z as ts or dz, as z is usually doubled for the tz sound. Also, writing Italian in Cyrillic would be a great tool for the Slavic ethnic minorities of Italy, or who want to learn Italian.

This Cyrillic alphabet takes elements from almost all the major Slavic languages, both Western and Eastern, and combines them to make a simple phonetic approach to Italian orthography. After all, Italian phonology is quite simple among the major languages of Europe and the rest of the world. I know you probably aren't much acquainted with some Cyrillic letters, especially if they're used in a Slavic language besides Russian, so here's a table to break it all down.

Our Father

[edit]

English:

"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Тhy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen."
