Bangabandhu's letter written on his seventy-first birthday Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman never celebrated his birthday by organizing much. About his own birthday, he said, “I have never celebrated my birthday myself - otherwise my wife would have given me a small gift on this day. I used to try to stay at home during this day.” He spent eight birthdays in jail before the country gained independence. Even in this unbearable situation, he thought about the liberation of people. He also called for freedom in his birthday message which came during the tumultuous period of 1971. wrote in the letter,

"This is our struggle today for the total liberation of seven crore people of Bangladesh. The struggle will continue until the rights are realized. The people of Bangladesh can no longer be silenced with bullet guns and bayonets. Because people are united today.

We should be ready to make any sacrifice to achieve the goal. A fortress of resistance must be built from house to house. Our demands are fair, so success is assured. Jai Bangla

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 17.3.71”

Bangabandhu was soaked in the love of the people of Bengal in the independent country. Bangabandhu lived on pages of newspapers, greetings surrounded him. What letter did Bangabandhu write on his seventy-first birthday?

17 March 1972 was Bangabandhu's first birth centenary in an independent country. The magazine brought out a special issue. Leaders and activists thronged Dhanmondi number 32 since morning.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman spent the whole day busy with political work. Meanwhile, he was showered with messages of love from well-wishers. Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited Bangladesh that day. He brought fruits and sweets for Bangabandhu.

After that, Bangabandhu passed through the busyness of his birthdays in 1973, 1974 and 1975. Birthday reports are published in newspaper pages. Special pages on Bangabandhu were also published. After that black night of August 15, 1975, the scenario of Bangladesh began to change. On March 17, 1976, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was not even seen in the newspaper pages. As if the undisputed hero of the Bengali liberation struggle was erased from the pages of history overnight.

Birthday of the epic writer of Bangladesh The word independence was made by us, the father of our nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born on March 17, 1920 in Tungipara, Gopalganj. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the third among four daughters and two sons of father Sheikh Lutfar Rahman and mother Saira Khatun. We are celebrating his birthday as National Children's Day. I am not observing it like this. It has significance. From his childhood, he witnessed the oppression-exploitation-suffering of landlords and moneylenders with open eyes. In the social sphere, he was initiated into non-communal spirit. At the age of seven, he enrolled at the nearby Gimadanga Government Primary School. Later he studied at Madaripur Islamia High School, Gopalganj Government Pilot School and later Gopalganj Mission School. He was diagnosed with beriberi, an incurable eye disease, and underwent an eye operation in Kolkata during his secondary studies. During this time, his studies were stopped for a few years. In 1942, after passing the matriculation examination, he went to Calcutta as a higher education student and got admission in the famous Islamia College and took up residence in the famous Baker Hostel. In 1946 he passed B.A. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was elected General Secretary of Islamia College Students' Union at this time. At this time he came in contact with leaders like Hossain Suhrawardy, Abul Hashim.

The time was a tumultuous period in the history of Bengal. Along with patriotism, sense of nationalism and Hindu, Muslim unity, the social and political life of Bengal is scarred by the divisive politics of the Congress Muslim League. Bangabandhu's intellectual and political development took place in such an atmosphere. His initiation was completed in the spirit of liberal democratic spirit as well as non-communal and national unity.

In 1946, he played a brave role as a volunteer in bringing peace to the communal riots. Which in later life made him confident in non-violent, non-cooperation movement against violence, hatred. He had learned the lessons of the non-cooperation movement which he did on the eve of our glorious liberation war in 1971. He was imprisoned for more than a century during the Pakistani colonial rule. Faced death by hanging at least twice, imprisoned 18 times. He has dealt with numerous cases throughout his life. But he never stopped on the question of freedom and rights of the people of Bengal. Bangabandhu's prison life from his childhood. During that British period, in 1938, when he was an eighth grade student at Gopalganj Mission School, he joined the anti-British movement. After the establishment of Pakistan, the imprisonment resumed on 11 March 1948 for taking part in the first language movement. From 1948 to 1954 he was imprisoned more than once.

After the dissolution of the United Front Cabinet in 1954, he was the only member of that cabinet to be arrested. He had to go to jail repeatedly for political conspiracy and false cases. However, he did not lose heart. Whatever time he got out of prison was spent either under the strict surveillance of Hulia or the detectives. In fact prison life became a part of Bangabandhu's life. As a result, he was not afraid of jail, instead he spent day after day in jail to the surprise of the ruling group, never compromising. If he had compromised, he could have become the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He spent most of his life in jail just for the purpose of getting the just demands of the country and people.

The birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu, the creator of an independent country, is therefore a historic day. happy day But why is this day National Children's Day? Why is this day designated only as children's day? Because, Bangabandhu Sonamani loved children very much. He had many dreams about children. He believed that today's children are the future of the nation. They will have to lead the nation building in the future. May they be rich in knowledge and dignity. He always hoped to become a creative and free-spirited person. Such thoughts were working in him from that Pakistan period. And in independent Bangladesh, when he is the jewel of everyone's head, it can be seen that he has not forgotten the children. When children went to a gathering or children came to him in the Ganabhaban, he used to mingle with them like a child, sharing in their joy and happiness.

Bangabandhu was imprisoned in the Great Language Movement of 1948 to 1952, the Education Movement of 1962, the historic 6-point movement of 1966, the right to autonomy, the alleged Agartala conspiracy case. In the 1970 elections, the Bengali nation gave unreserved support to the six points given by Bangabandhu. In this Bangabandhu's Awami League gained the status of the majority political party in Pakistan. But the Pakistani ruling group led by Sheikh Mujib did not accept the victory of Bengalis in this election. As the majority party, they started various conspiracies to get power from Awami League.

After the partition of the subcontinent in 1947, he moved to East Bengal and chose Dhaka as the center of his political activities. He was admitted to the Department of Law in Dhaka University. Then he supported and actively participated in the movement of third and fourth class employees in Dhaka University. Bangabandhu's studentship was cancelled. Recently, the current Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's studentship was returned due to the great initiative of Aams Arefin Siddique. Then, in March 1971, an unprecedented non-cooperation movement began against the ruling group of West Pakistan under the leadership of Bangabandhu. On March 7, Bangabandhu loudly announced to the crowd at the Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan) that 'this time is our struggle for freedom, this time is the struggle for freedom.' In response to this historic speech of Bangabandhu, the entire Bengali nation united and jumped into the liberation war.

Bangabandhu went to Kachikachhar Mela, Khelgar and other organizations of Shishubandhu programs and gatherings. Enjoyed their performance of marchpast, stick games etc. He mingled with the children so easily, so sincerely, that the children adopted him as their own. He was Mujib Bhai to children and teenagers, young and old, young and old; He preferred this address. As a result, the age gap was reduced. He became everyone's own, soulmate. It is because of this extraordinary quality that he was able to unite the entire Bengali nation against the Pakistani exploiters; He brought the priceless jewel of freedom.

On the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistani military launched an attack on the unarmed Bengalis under the name of 'Operation Searchlight'. In the early hours of March 26, Bangabandhu made a wireless declaration of independence from his historical residence number 32 in Dhanmondi. After this announcement, Bangabandhu was arrested and taken to Pakistan. There, the Pakistani regime began its first trial, keeping it in prison. After 9 months of armed liberation war, Bir Bengali won on 16th December 1971. Independent sovereign Bangladesh was born.

On January 10, 1972, the ruling group of Pakistan was forced to release Bangabandhu under the pressure of world leaders. After being released from Pakistan prison, he returned home. On returning home, he concentrated on the reconstruction of war-torn Bangladesh. But he didn't get that chance for long.

Bangabandhu, who loved children, promulgated the National Children Act on 22 June 1974 for the welfare of children. This Act recognizes the right of children to name and nationality; The right to safety from all forms of neglect, exploitation, cruelty, torture, ill-use etc. is guaranteed. If Bangabandhu had not been killed by conspiratorial assassins on August 15, 1975, he would have done great things for children. Because his dream was to build a happy-prosperous golden Bengal; And he considered children to be the craftsmen who can build the gold bangla of that dream.

Charismatic leadership has become indispensable in the process of nation building and development, containing thousands of years of tradition, struggle and culture. The one who takes the initiative to unite the spirit of the people in the soil-man, homeland, and the future in the overall main stream-history gives him the way, he also creates history. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman 'Poet of Politics' is one such charismatic leader in the construction of nation state in the thousand years history of Bengali nation. He embodied the aspirations, needs and unspoken sentiments of the entire nation in words, voices, looks and demeanor, in protest, resistance and death-defying courage. Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina declared Bangabandhu's birthday on March 17 as National Children's Day in 1996 during her first term as Prime Minister in view of the demands of children. The celebration of this day started on March 17, 1997. In 2001, the BNP-Jamaat government came to power and stopped the state ceremony of observing National Children's Day. BNP Jamaat reached the extreme level of distortion of history. However, the day continued to be observed at party and private levels. Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina is back in power since 2009. Now National Children's Day is being celebrated again in the state. But Bangabandhu, the greatest father of the Bengali nation of all time, is not so good, he will be thrown away with the change of government! Will the government stop celebrating his birthday? Bangabandhu is the leader of the entire nation. He is the architect of an independent state and the father of the nation. There is no room for debate.

After the independence of Bangladesh, one day in 1972, some small friends from Kachikachhar Mela went to the office of the Prime Minister, Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu at the Ganabhaban with their pictures of the Liberation War to hand over the photo albums to him. The pictures will be taken by Bangabandhu during his visit to Russia as a gift for the children of that country. There were some adults with the children at that time. Bangabandhu was very happy to have small artist friends. He caressed them with a smile. Bangabandhu was looking at the pictures drawn by the children with interest and was appreciative of the pictures and the painters. He was impressed and said, ``The children of my country can draw such perfect pictures, it cannot be believed without seeing them.

Today hundreds of our holy-innocent children are being killed by petrol bombs, cocktails, grenades. If Bangabandhu was alive, this kuchkri mahal would not have had a chance. He sleeps in the hearts of all our innocent children. Bangabandhu, the father of the nation, the author of the epic that is now known as Bangladesh, added the word independence to the Bengali vocabulary.

The news published in Ittefa on March 18 about this day was as follows – “There was a stream of people towards his residence to wish the leader on his birthday. At least 50,000 people gathered at Bangabandhu's residence. There was no barrier between the leader and the crowd. From 6:30 in the morning, the crowd of those who wanted to meet the leader started at the 32 road residence. Some came to the residence of the father of the nation with garlands, garlands, some birthday cakes, sweets and other gifts, wished him well. Bangabandhu cheerfully met all the visitors and exchanged greetings. He met the well-wishers for more than 4 hours from 7 am to 11:30 am. Various organizations including Bakshal, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Student Union came in procession, in groups.... Bangabandhu sent floral wreaths to Hossain Shaheed Sohrawardy, Sherebangla, late Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia, Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque and language movement martyrs' shrine, Shaheed Minar and Savar National Memorial. . Bangabandhu advised all comers to work hard to build the country. At around 11 am, Bangabandhu addressed the gathering and said, 'I have not declared a holiday on my birthday. So today I will go to the office, even if it is for a short time, I will do the office work. He ordered everyone present to go to their respective offices. Around 11:30 in the morning, Bangabandhu left the residence for Ganobhaban.

How Bangabandhu spent his birthday Bangabandhu's birthday was celebrated yesterday. The program to celebrate Bangabandhu's birth centenary, which started in 2020, ended yesterday due to the interruption due to the epidemic of Corona. In these two years, the centenary of Bangabandhu's birth, the golden jubilee of independence and the establishment of relations with Bangladesh and other countries have been celebrated in the state. On the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary celebrations, we had the opportunity to hear the presence and speeches of local and foreign heads of government in various programs of the government about Bangabandhu and Bangladesh. During this time, many books have been written about Bangabandhu, government documents, audios, videos have been recovered - which will introduce the readers or young generation to Bangabandhu's political life, struggle, history of development of Bangladesh and his thoughts on the reconstruction of post-independence Bangladesh. Documents, books, audios, videos and writings and speeches of local and foreign elites published on the occasion of birth centenary will be important documents. But knowing what Bangabandhu thought and did about his birthday is not less important for us.

He wrote about how he used to spend his birthday in 1967 while he was in jail in Dhaka. In 'Karagarer Roznamcha' he gave a detailed description on pages 209-211. He wrote, 'I was born on this day in 1920 in a small village in East Bengal. I have never celebrated my birthday myself - at least my wife would have given me a small gift on this day. During this day I tried to stay at home. I saw in the newspaper that Dhaka City Awami League is celebrating my birthday. I think it's because I'm in jail. I am a man, and my birthday again! I smiled. I wake up early in the morning and see Noore Alam - I have 20 cells, present in my room with some flowers. He told me, this is my gift, on your birthday. I gratefully accepted. Then Babu Chittaranjan Sutra gave me a blood rose and Babu Sudhanshu Bimal Dutt also gave me a white rose and DPR prisoner Emdadulla Sahib gave me a red dalia.' Bangabandhu's expected people appeared at the jail gate at 5 pm with cakes and flowers. These are Bangabandhu's wife Begum Fazilatun Necha Mujib and children, especially the youngest child Russell. Bangabandhu wrote, 'I see the City Awami League has sent a big cake. I cut Russell, I also gave a hand. Everyone in Jailgate was given something. On his next birthday, Bangabandhu was the main accused in the Agartala Conspiracy Case in Dhaka Cantonment. Even imagining celebrating a birthday there was a nightmare. He was released on 22 February as a result of the 1969 People's Coup. As the victorious leader of Bengali, he was busy with political programs on his birthday that year. Still, family members and activists did not fail to wish him a happy birthday. Even though it was 50 years since his birth in 1970, he was busy with politics. He hardly had time to spare beyond the family and party to congratulate him by cutting a cake. The most important gift he received was on March 17, 1971. He could not even dream of that gift. Not many people knew then how Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech at the Race Course Maidan was audio-recorded and videotaped. A full account of this is given in Janakantha and Dainik Kaler Kantha, written by me in 2011 and 2012 on 'How the March 7 speech was audio-videoed'. On March 17, Bangabandhu's birthday, Abul Khair appeared at Bangabandhu's residence with a copy of the audio and video recording of the MNA speech. When he presented a copy of it, Bangabandhu was overwhelmed and asked, 'How did you do such a great job?' Bangabandhu was accompanied by another young MNA, Tofail Ahmed. He addressed Mr. Khayer and said, 'Khair brother, if you sell this record, you will get a lot of money, even Awami League can get its royalty.' ' Bangabandhu was the Prime Minister and Father of the Nation of independent Bangladesh in 1972. A public holiday was declared on that day. But Bangabandhu did not have the slightest opportunity to enjoy a holiday or celebrate his birthday that day. March 17, 1972 was Bangabandhu's 53rd birthday. It is supposed to be celebrated as the first birthday of independent Bangladesh with a grand ceremony. But that didn't happen. On that day, the birthday ceremony was celebrated with a grand ceremony. There are two reasons for this - Bangabandhu may not have expected or allowed it to happen. Another reason was that the Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, who had given full support in the liberation war, appeared on the soil of independent Bangladesh that day. As a result, Bangabandhu and the higher authorities of the government had to spend the day very busy. However, on that day Mrs. Indira Gandhi gave a different dimension to Bangabandhu's birthday by gifting fruits and sweets on behalf of 55 crore Indians. Bangabandhu and Indira Gandhi were also present at the event where the Indian Army, which participated in the Liberation War, returned home on the same day as a tribute to Bangabandhu's birthday. Different organizations organized various programs on the occasion of the 53rd birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On the occasion of Bangabandhu's 53rd birthday, the then General Secretary of Awami League, Finance Minister and Prime Minister of the War of Liberation government Tajuddin Ahmad wrote, 'Today is 17th March. Birthday of the great Bengali father Sheikh Mujib. In the voice of seven and a half million people of Bengal, there is only one song - Joytu Mujib! And the momentary echo of this song echoes the great leader's birthday with respect, affection, greetings, blessings, and love that fill the hearts of every citizen of the independent country. The wish is one of them - Mujib, long live you!'

March 17, 1975 is Bangabandhu's 55th birth anniversary. That was the last birthday he saw. A report published in Ittefa on March 18 about the day was as follows – “There was a stream of people heading towards his residence to wish the leader on his birthday. At least 50,000 people gathered at Bangabandhu's residence. There was no barrier between the leader and the crowd. From 6:30 in the morning, the crowd of those who wanted to meet the leader started at the residence on Road No. 32. Various organizations including Bakshal, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Student Union came in procession, in groups... Bangabandhu sent floral wreaths to Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Sher Bangla, late Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia, Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque and language movement martyrs' shrine, Shaheed Minar and Savar National. at the memorial Bangabandhu advised all comers to work hard to build the country. At around 11 am, Bangabandhu addressed the gathering and said, 'I have not declared a holiday on my birthday. So today I will go to the office, even if it is for a short time, I will do the office work. He ordered everyone present to go to their respective offices. Around 11:30 in the morning, Bangabandhu left the residence for Ganabhaban.”

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman died on August 15 with his family. His birthday and 20 years from 15 August 1975-95 were not auspicious occasions. During the rule of Ziaur Rahman, Ershad and Khaleda Zia of BNP, there were various government obstacles in observing these days. But Bangabandhu was the founder of Bangladesh. But not only the celebration of his birthday, but also the pronunciation of his name was banned. Awami League and its organizations organized Bangabandhu's historic speech on March 7, kangalivoj on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birthday and 15th August, were attacked, vandalized and staged by gangsters.

The way Bangabandhu's birthday was celebrated in 71 Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birthday was celebrated in a different way on March 17, 1971. On that day, the artists of Bangladesh expressed in a novel way, the demand for the freedom of their dreams.

At the end of Bangabandhu's speech at Suhrawardy Udyan on March 7, 1971, the artists could not understand the meaning of the declaration 'this time is a struggle for freedom, this time is a struggle for freedom'. And after this speech, they all joined together to discuss independence through pictures and posters. It was decided to speed up this Bengali non-cooperation movement by drawing pictures, writing posters and big banners. An implementation committee was formed by convening artists Qayyum Chowdhury and Murtaza Bashir. After painting hundreds of pictures and posters for 10 days, on March 17, Bangabandhu's birthday, the painters took out a huge procession of revolutionary paintings from Shaheed Minar.

Every artist had a painting that day. And the subject of these images is the deprivation, torture, looting of resources of the people of East Pakistan and the development of West Pakistan, the attack and neglect of Bengali language and culture, as well as the pictures of the protest and struggle of the people of East Pakistan.

This was treason under the martial law of the time. The soldiers could shoot at sight for this. But the painters took out this procession knowing that it could lead to death.

The most significant and important issue of this march was freedom. The marchers walked from the front of the procession with four girls hanging around their necks, writing these four letters beautifully.

This procession was led by Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin. He was the greatest courage and strength of artists that day. Thousands of people gathered on both sides of the road to watch this ongoing exhibition.

On hearing the news, Begum Sufia Kamal went to the end from the side of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin in the procession. The procession went from Shaheed Minar via Segunbagichar Topkhana Road via present Bangabandhu Avenue via Nawabpur Road to Victoria Park or present Bahadur Shah Park. However, neither the Pakistan Army nor the police forces stopped the procession and did not fire.

Thousands of people go to Dhanmondi number 32 that day to greet him. However, Bangabandhu said that he does not celebrate his birthday.

After reaching the residence, Bangabandhu met with domestic and foreign journalists at the request of them. A foreign journalist wishes the leader of Bangladesh on his birthday and wants to know what is Bangabandhu's biggest wish on his 52nd birthday? In response, Bangabandhu said, "Total emancipation of the people". In response to another question, he said, "I don't celebrate birthdays." I don't light the candles or cut the cake on my birthday.'

Bangabandhu said, I am one of the people. What is my birthday and death day? I live and die for my people.

However, on the occasion of Bangabandhu's 52nd birthday, after the Asr prayer at Baitul Mokaram Mosque, prayers were offered to wish Bangabandhu's long life. Maulana Sheikh Mohammad Obaidura bin Syed Jalalabadi led the prayer.

On the next birthday of Bangabandhu, however, such a procession did not have to be taken out. By that time, independent, sovereign Bangladesh is no longer a dream, but a reality. And after being freed from Pakistan prison, Bangabandhu returned to the country and started the work of building the country.

Born in Tongipara village of Gopalganj on March 17, 1920, Bangladesh was founded under the leadership of Khoka, who lost 300,000 lives. Today the day is being celebrated all over the country. Since the Awami League government in 1996, the day has been celebrated as National Children's Day.
