Early Life

Born to JoMarie Perry and Marcus Child on January 19, 1971, Mo'Nique was the second child born in their union. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Mo'Nique's parents separated shortly after her birth and her mother JoMarie gained custody of her and her older sister Natasha (born 1967). They later moved in with Mo'Nique's grandmother Rose Child in Savannah, Georgia. In 1977, Mo'Nique's mother JoMarie decided to return to her father. In 1978, Mo'Nique's parents had baby LaVar. In 1990, her parents divorced and Mo'Nique later met her future husband Rodger Stevens. In 1992, Mo'Nique graduated from college and then bought a condo near her mother. Today, Mo'Nique resides in Washington, D.C with her husband Rodger. They are expecting their first child together due in February 2010.

  • Mo'Nique's father Marcus married his second wife Tia Mitchell in 1996. They both reside in her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Mo'Nique's sister Natasha married her boyfriend Randy Morales in 1995. They both reside in Brooklyn, New York with their son Michael and daughters Priya and Suzie.
  • Mo'Nique's mother JoMarie lives in an apartment near Mo'Nique and her husband. She resides in Washington, D.C.
  • Mo'Nique's brother LaVar married his girlfriend Myrna in 1999. They both reside in San Diego, California with no children.
  • Mo'Nique's grandmother Rose still lives in Savannah, Georgia. She recently turned 82.

Marriage

On January 19, 2000, Mo'Nique was having dinner with boyfriend Rodger Stevens when he proposed to her after 10 years of dating. That day was also her 29th birthday. On June 7, 2000 the couple married in a Baptist wedding. Mo'Nique was given in marriage by her father. Her bridesmaids were her sister Natasha, stepmother Tia, and mother JoMarie. The guests were only friends and family.
