The New Jersey Teenage Republicans, also referred to as the New Jersey High School Republicans or NJHSR, is a political youth organization for self-identified Republicans between the ages of 13 and 18. It is the official garden state chapter of the National Teen Age Republicans.

High School Republican clubs are both social and political in nature. Many of them sponsor various social events and networking events for members. In addition, High School Republican clubs assist Republican political candidates and causes.

History

[edit]

The New Jersey Teenage Republicans were formed in the 1960s. It has participated in the presidential campaigns of every single Republican nominee since Nixon.

The aging out of most of Shoemaker's board from the club, and ongoing Covid-19 pandemic meant that there was never a 2020 election. Jeremy Li, the previous secretary, was appointed as provisional chairman by the adult advisor and former chairman Kennith Gonzalez in October 2020. A special election was called on January 23 of the following year and William Atkins was elected to serve as chairman. Shortly afterwards, the organization adopted a second name, the New Jersey High School Republicans.

Organizational structure

[edit]

The NJHSR is currently composed of four county organizations and two school organizations, on the decline due to Covid-19. The executive board consists of an elected chair, vice chair, secretary, and appointed officers.

Executive authority is held by the chairman, but may be left for review by a council of two members from each county organization.

County organizations elect a chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer, council members, and various directors.
