History of FOPNL (Front of Package Nutrition Labeling)
- Began with a 1993 law in Finland issuing a warning label on sodium-rich products[1]
3 Pillars of the Law
- Clearly communicates to consumers what a packaged food is high in such as sodium, saturated fats and sugars that are above the recommended amount[1]
- Schools are prohibited[2] from selling foods with a FOPWL[1]
- Protects children aged 14 and under from consuming a dangerous amount of “harmful nutrients”[1]
