Hello! I created a page on 23rd September, and since then I have been working on Fei-Ranis Model of Economic Growth. Although the page is in its initial phase right now, it would be great if you could take a look, feedbacks are more than welcome!
My main areas of interest are econometrics, development and public policy, micro and macroeconomics. I am highly passionate about economic research and econometrics.
I am currently working as a Research Analyst in the Environment and Development division of Institute of Economic Growth in New Delhi, India under Prof. Saudamini Das (SANDEE fellow, Maler scholar). The first project was on lessons learnt from the community response and role of state institutions in managing disaster risk with regards to Cyclone Phailin; following which the current project is on the household dependence on common property resources.
The critical reason for pursuing Masters in Environmental and Resource Economics was to study in-depth about the optimal extraction and use, non-market valuation and pricing of exhaustible and renewable resources. This course has helped me attain a strong foothold in quantitative analysis and optimization techniques.
I have done my Master’s thesis under the supervision of Prof. Kanchan Chopra (Former Director of Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi) on the temporary and permanent migratory response to climatic shocks in rural India. Using a logit regression with binomial distribution, I have explored the role of weather-related risk at the rural place of origin on a household’s propensity to migrate in India as a risk management strategy. The paper was selected for presentation at the International Seminar on Migration, Care Economy and Development at JNU, Center for Development Studies, Kerala.
I also undertook a course in Advanced Econometrics and secured top most marks (A plus) in the same. I am highly proficient with Stata and can do statistical programming well. My Masters’ thesis has required me to extract the NSS socio-economic survey at the unit-level and household-level. I also have experience working with daily gridded rainfall data which required extensive extraction. Through mentorship from Institute of Economic Growth, I have acquired a strong sense of understanding and handling large micro-level hierarchal datasets at hand.
As an intern at the Institute of Rural Research and Development (IRRAD), Haryana, I wrote an academic paper on the role of Panchayat in the functioning of the public distribution system in Haryana. This internship required extensive field surveys and discussions with villagers, Pachanyat members and ration shop owners for collection of primary data, which helped me obtain a deep understanding of rural areas. I am also excellent at designing surveys and translating surveys into local languages (Hindi) for primary data collection.
