History
[edit]As part of their decarbonisation plans, British Steel announced their intent to cease producing steel from iron ore which creates large amounts of released carbon, and replace them with EAF plants to produce steel from scrap metal. Initially, it was deemed sufficient to have just one EAF plant located at Lincolnshire, which would produce enough raw metal to supply the downstream plants within Lincolnshire, and also in the North-East (TBM, Skinningrove and Hartlepool). However, the single plant would require an amount of electricity greater than could be drawn from the National Grid (and such a connection was not possible until 2034), so the plan was amended to have two EAF plants, one in Lincolnshire, and a second on Teesside.[1]
