Surely, you forgot to supply a redirect to "betatron"? I've removed this synonym until I can find better sourcing; there are a few almost-RS sources that mention this candidate term, but your edit [1] predates them all, and it seems likely that these are only taking Wikipedia without the appropriate grain of salt. Mind you, physics students had weird and sick senses of humor even back in the 1940s, so I'm not ruling it out. If you could turn up a source, it would be delightful. If you can't, well ... - From the Department of Nothing Better to Do This Morning: Searching on "by golly-tron" in Google books resolved the issue. (Searching on the entire term was probably breaking on hyphenations before.) A story in a 1950 issue of Life supports your edit. I've restored your cite of the University of Illinois page as well. I got into contact with Celia Elliot, who claimed authorship of that page, and she supported your version, promising to get back to me with details. I still haven't found a reference for "inductron" as a candidate name. But someday I will redeem my otherwise sad and pointless life by nailing that one as well. Mark my words.
