In regard to the ongoing saga at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Sarah Palin protection wheel war, I need some unbiased opinion.

Was I so off in my understanding and application of WP:IAR that I should consider relinquishing the admin bit and retiring from the project?

(Disclosure, I am neither Democrat, nor Republican, in fact I am even not an American citizen)

I cannot offer extended comment as the case clerk, but briefly, I do wish to say, Jossi, that your judgement in this matter was lacking at times. Whether that is part of a wider pattern or not, I cannot say for sure; from my limited knowledge base of your activities, I am inclined to say that no, it is not a wider problem, and that yes, this is a one-off incident of poor judgement.
For the purposes of the record, the instance of judgement that I feel was poor on your part is the sub-incident on the administrators' noticeboard, in which you announced your intention to (essentially) IAR and wheel war on the article to reverse an action you disagreed with. That's something I'd expect in a newbie's contributions page, not a seasoned administrator's.
You can come out of this with your head held high, and most likely with your +sysop bit. However, I fear the committee may take an unsympathetic view with regards to this matter, and desysop. Although that card is on the table, I would suggest, Jossi, that you retain your administrator bit: at least try and prove, between now and the commencing of the arbitrators' vote casting, that you continue to have solid judgement.

Personally I think you erred in citing IAR when "it's a wiki" would have sufficed. Resigning would be a poor decision as per WP:UNDERACLOUD/WP:YOULLNEVERGETITBACK/WP:WILLGOSIDEWAYSAGAIN/etc. (somebody should create a suitable target for these shortcuts) and retiring wouldn't help anyone at all.

I doubt you will be desysopped if you allow the case to run its course. The committee found no fault in your conduct last time it was examined, and I do not believe any credible allegation of "COI" will be made (that is, I doubt Sarah Palin has anything to do with, or has even heard of, Prem Rawat, whoever he is

I don't wee any evidence that you used admin powers to hurt a user you do not like or to pwn an article, so short answer: no, don'tgo. I could write a muchlonger answer to justify why no one should even think of qustioning your being an admin. The point is, editors goof all the time, and all admins are first an foremost editors. In other words, have we convinced you? ;) Your actions haven't warranted such a move on an involuntary basis; there is no need for you to pre-empt a move that is not forthcoming. What should you do? What I would do is step forward and say "I will voluntarily not use the protect/unprotect tool on ANY article for the next six months." I see no need for greater sanction. The log for Sarah Palin is, as one arb said, a disgrace, and you participated in that. But as Slrubenstein points out, you weren't trying to hurt anybody or advance an agenda. You were basically standing on principle and let that get the better of you. Admit as much, volunteer not to use the tool for some time, and get back to work.
