Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: User names that match the real name of a well-known living person (in this case Matt Groening) are not permitted unless evidence can be supplied that you are, indeed, that person. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

As always, feel free to contact me on my talk page if you have any questions. Shereth 23:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, we cannot allow you to keep the user name because some people may confuse you for the actual Matt Groening, especially since you are interested in editing Simpsons related articles. Please consider a request at changing usernames that might reflect your love of The Simpsons and/or Matt Groening in a way that does not bring up the possibility of confusion over impersonation. If you need help putting together a request, let me know. Thanks again for the prompt response! Shereth 23:48, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have replied to your question on my talk page. Shereth 23:55, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tom Daley

[edit]

Hi there! Just thought I ought to clarify my response to your protection suggestion on Tom's talk page. Firstly, I'm not an admin, so if you do think that the page ought to be protected again, feel free to nominate it (at WP:RPP if you didn't already know), but as I explained, I'd be surprised if it got approved, but you never know! Obviously if the vandalism picks up again (and it probably will, sadly, if Tom does well on the BBC Young Sportsperson of the Year award), then feel free to nomiate it, if nobody else does. Secondly, I just wanted to say keep up the good work, I know you do vandal-reverting work, and that's really important to Wikipedia! Cheers! --Ged UK (talk) 08:00, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem. It's worth having a look at the page protection page, gives you an idea of the things that admins look at/for when deciding whether to protect a page. --Ged UK (talk) 16:51, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Elongate vs. elongated

[edit]

Hi Matt,

In this edit, you've changed "elongate" to "elongated", as a "grammar change", which indicates there was something wrong with the original sentence. Actually, "elongate" is perfectly acceptable in this sense. I've left your edit intact, though. Best wishes and happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 02:02, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Kanye West proposal

[edit]

Hello. I'm proposing a WikiProject Kanye West at WikiProject Council/Proposals/Kanye West. Would you mind taking the time to vote there? Put your name in the Support section if you think he deserves one.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
