Noleander at ArbCom

I started a protracted thread on Noleander at AN/I - I do not recall your participating;[1] the whole case has been moved to ArbCom.[2] I regret this because I never wanted this to be a personal conflict between Noleander and myself.

In my mind, all this was sparked by Noleander's creation of the article on "Jews and money;" I accused Noleander of anti-Semetic editing and proposed a ban, Slim Virgin changed it to a topic ban.

The article was renamed Economic history of the Jews and someone opened up an AfD but it looks to me like the article will be kept - at both the AfD page and the AN/I thread i opened, people argued that (1) economic history of the jews is a notable topic with reliable sources and (2) however flawed the article, it can be improved and that is what WP is all about; Collect says he cut out the antti-Semitic parts and while he did cut a lot, I do not think the cuts changed anything (If you want to know why I think the article is irredeemable I wrote up a critique here but I fear my reaction is too strident for most people). People accused me of violating NPA in calling Noleander an anti-Semite (I was pretty careful not to call her an anti-Semite but to characterize her patter of editing as anti-Semitic behavior).

So now it is at ArbCom which presents it as a conflict between me and Noleander, which is not how I view it or wish to view it.

I did wish to get the community to discuss how to recognize and address anti-Semitic editing. I know you have sometimes grappled with this too and welcome any advice or suggestions. If you have any suggestions about how one can recognize anti-Semitic texts - in this context, how to distinguish between adding text at WP that is about anti-Semitism, or that is simply poorly-written information about Jews, and actual anti-Semitic writing, I would really appreciate your input. I think this is an issue the community has had a lot of trouble confronting, and I find it hard sometimes to explain effectively.

The ArbCom committe wants evidence now, and i know that what they like is long strings of edit diffs. Frankly as far as I am concerned an edit you made to AN/I a long time ago, calling attention to his use of material from Radio Islam that Stormfront also used, is all the evidence one needs, but I am not sure I can use a comment you made and present it as my evidence. besides, while you view that as evidence of anti-Semitism, you recall that many members of the community do not interpret it that way.

Well, i am not sure if you are still interested in these problems, but in case you are I thought I would check in with you. Thanks, Slrubenstein | Talk 16:37, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
