B Yellow Article[edit]

Moved to your userspace[edit]

Hi! I noticed that you created the article B Yellow. Unfortunately there were a few issues. First off, you cannot remove speedy templates from articles you have created. You can argue for its notability but you cannot remove deletion templates unless it is a proposed deletion. Also, removing the tags that mention that something is wrong with the article content-wise doesn't remove the actual issue. It actually does more of a disservice because those tags usually show up on a page where editors interested in improving the content can see the article's name and improve it if they so wished.

That said, there are a lot of issues with the article. There's no actual notability established despite it being a very long article. A long article doesn't mean that the subject is notable. I'd actually recommend against puffing the article out with a lot of extraneous information. That can often come across as unhelpful and unencyclopedic to other users and even worse, can make it look like it's a fan page. An example of something I'd cull would be along the lines of "He enjoys playing a wide variety of music and is inspired by a range of musicians from Amy Macdonald through to Green Day. They have found common ground performing and writing folk/acoustic rock music, which mixes their two styles together." This is something that would be great on a blog, but not so much on a Wikipedia article. We also don't need to know the exact brand of guitar or keyboard that they use. If they are notorious and I mean NOTORIOUS for using one type of guitar (to the point where he's had news articles written about this) then you can briefly mention this in the article but an entire section is completely unnecessary.

The sources on the article are unusable as far as notability goes. They're all primary sources, (WP:PRIMARY) which means that they're sources affiliated with the band. These sort of things can't show notability and are actually somewhat discouraged as far as sources go. I'm going to edit the article to where it's more neutral and encyclopedic, but I wanted to give you a head's up about all of this since you're new to Wikipedia and aren't used to the editing style and what is considered to be a reliable source. I also have to ask, since you have listed yourself as the author of several images on the article, are you affiliated with the band in any way? If so, then you need to read over our conflict of interest policy. Otherwise, you will need to get permission to use those images from the band and file it through ORS.

The article is at User:XxDalekcaanxx/B Yellow. I've edited the article to where it's more along the lines of what an article about a band on Wikipedia is supposed to look. It's different from your version, but then there were a lot of issues with the previous version. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:48, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of B Yellow[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on B Yellow requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Hairhorn (talk) 01:43, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Please don't create this page again without addressing the issues already pointed out to you. Cheers. Hairhorn (talk) 01:45, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out the flaws in my first article B Yellow. I believe that I have now added suitable notability to the page and would like to ask you to verify that this is suitable. If so, please remove the db-band tag so I can continue to edit this page without worry in the future.
XxDalekcaanxx (talk) 11:39, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

I've deleted the article again. What you've stated is not good enough to meet our notability guidelines for bands. See WP:BAND for more detail. Please do not recreate the article until you have secondary sources (reliable magazine, news, web site articles) demonstrating the subject meets WP:BAND. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 13:50, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:BYellowNathanClose.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:BYellowNathanClose.jpg, which you've attributed to https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=564003740316831&set=o.142852365781969&type=3&theater. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 21:45, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
