Velpuru is a village and a mandal in West Godavari district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India

Description

Many villages derive their name from a mythical war between Tarka-sena (Often referred to as Tarak-asura). Asuras are demons, and Tarakasena was made a demon after his defeat in a great war between him and Lord Kumaraswamy (Subramanyeswara swamy), the son of Lord Shiva and Parvathi. The place where all the deities reside is known as Velpuru (Velpula ooru).

Velpur is known for its agricultural & dairy production. This has a significant name in the complete mandal because of chaitanya.

This village can provide most things, but is notable for having 120 temples.Sri Rudreswara, Subramanyeswara swamy(Subbarayudu),Veerabhadra, Mahalaksmi and Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple are situated in the middle of the village. The village god of velpur is mahalakshmi. There are many school for students till 10th class. Good teaching facilities been provided by the Z.P.H.SCHOOL of velpur. The population of this village is more when compared to the other villages in Andhra Pradesh.The village population is more than 30000. The Village recently awarded by "Chaitanya gramam" (A Roll Model to All villages) for its achievement in cleanliness.
