Walter Hilgers in 2013

Walter Hilgers (born 1959 in Stolberg, Germany) is a German tuba player. He performs worldwide as orchestral musician, soloist, academic music teacher, arranger and conductor.

  • 1978 – 1981 Robert Schumann Institute of Music in Düsseldorf
  • 1989 – 1995 professor for tuba and chamber music at the Hamburg Institute of Fine Arts
  • Since 1995 professor for tuba and chamber music at Franz Liszt academy of music in Weimar

Conducting

  • Since 1995 ensemble Tritonus Wimares, founded by W. Hilgers. Members are soloists of the Staatskapelle Weimar
  • Since 2000 Young German Brass Soloists (Junge Deutsche Blechbläsersolisten)
  • Guest conductor at Philharmonic State Orchestra Košice, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonic State Orchestra Montevideo, Europe festival orchestra
