Whelan Nunatak is an isolated nunatak standing 5 nautical miles (9 km) northwest of Mount Starlight in the Athos Range, Prince Charles Mountains. Mapped by ANARE (Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions) from air photos taken in 1965. Named by Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) for R.F. Whelan, radio officer at Davis Station, 1964.
