Merope (talk · contribs) I've been an editor of WP for several years now, but have only been registered for two and really active for the past three months. I am constantly trying to improve both my skills as an editor and my knowledge of WP policies, and this seemed a natural place to turn. Thanks! -- Merope 20:49, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • To start off, you're doing pretty well. I suppose you might like to try involving yourself in something like requests for adminship, since you're already active at WP:AFD, but it would probably be more beneficial to try these things instead:
  1. Concentrate on making larger contributions to articles that interest you. Since you have a couple of games listed on your userpage, you could take a crack at the list of tasks at WikiProject CVG, especially trying to improve stub and start articles to at least GA-class (and don't forget to discuss your changes on the talk page!). Wikification is a very worthy cause, but you might get a lot out of writing.
  2. Apart from that, you should aim to be more lenient with your newpage patrolling: speaking from my own experience (under a different name), many newer users write articles using a series of versions, rather than all at once. So, rather than doing exactly what I used to do in cases like this, it's probably better to place the article on your watchlist (after tagging it as necessary) and leave it for another half an hour after its creation to determine what should be done. Kudos for telling the user about it on their talk page, though, which I never used to do. :)
You're doing well, overall, and I certainly look forward to seeing more of you around. Nothing in your editing strikes me as particularly in need of work, and that's always a good sign. :) --Daveydweeb (chat/patch) 03:14, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • To start off with, you're doing very well. I keep running into your sig everywhere, and it's always preceded by something insightful and perceptive :) As David says, it would be nice to see you expanding into major contributions to articles – pick a topic that interests you and see where you can go with the article. I haven't done much of this myself :) but it may be a point of contention in your current RfA. I did, however, check out your to-do list, so you obviously want to make larger contributions, and that's great.
Also, the NPPing is a little harsh at times, and it's a little icky to see speedy deletion tags in your edit history. Perhaps you're a little too hasty to judge when an article should be a speedy or not. I think someone mentioned this in your RfA, but if a deletion tag is repeatedly removed, and you still think it merits deletion, you should probably take it to AfD.
I've !voted neutral on your RfA, but please note that it's nothing personal... I would just like to see you spend some more time being active here. Admins need to be extra committed to the project, and 3 months, with very long gaps in editing before that, can't indicate your level of commitment to me just yet. If this RfA doesn't work out (although it seems like it will), try running again in about 3 months time, and I will be rushing to support!
Overall, you're doing nicely, and I wish you all the best with your editing – and your RfA! Regards, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 16:11, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I haven't created many articles, but I was glad to have started the one on The Athenian Murders, a favorite book of mine. I'm very pleased with my participation in Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify, because I feel that it's a worthwhile project that many editors eschew as being unglamorous.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I think anyone who does RC or New Page Patrol gets into conflicts, but those are easily laughed off. (I even play with the vandalism sometimes to lighten my mood, as you will see here. I've been in a few conflicts about reverting edits, but I try to approach the user personally on his or her talk page, explain my position, and, if necessary, take a day off from editing to let things cool down. I really think I've done a good job at keeping my cool in those kind of situations (though perhaps you'll tell me differently!).
