Thanos (Marvel Cinematic Universe)
[edit]Thanos is a fictional character portrayed primarily by Josh Brolin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He is depicted as an alien warlord from the doomed planet Titan with a universe-spanning agenda to wipe out half of all life to stabilize overpopulation and prevent what he views as life's inevitable extinction. To do this, he sets out to obtain the six Infinity Stones, cosmic gems with the power to achieve his goal. With the help of his adopted children, Thanos fights against the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and their allies, in the Infinity War, succeeds in assembling the Stones, and disintegrates half of all life in the universe in an event that is known as the Blip.
I've been able to get all of the articles to GA over the last few months. With how big the MCU is, I figured I'd try to find a good subject for a Good Topic as there hasn't been one since the films got delisted a while back. It felt like Thanos was as good as any with his actions in the most recent Avengers films. -- ZooBlazertalk 17:18, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: Not sure I'm seeing a topic here. Would it make sense to put these three articles, and no others, in a Category:Thanos? If not, then they're probably not tightly connected enough to cohere as a GT. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 18:14, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Bryanrutherford0 If a new category has to be created, it would probably have to be Category:Thanos (Marvel Cinematic Universe) or something along those lines to differentiate it from the comics character. -- ZooBlazertalk 18:32, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm not saying that there should be such a category; on the contrary, I'm saying that there probably shouldn't be such a category, which makes me suspect that there probably shouldn't be a Good Topic about Thanos, either. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 19:23, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Bryanrutherford0 Just curious, is it not good enough that all three are in the larger Category:Avengers (film series)? With how big fhe MCU is, we pretty much can only do topics like this which covers the character and the two big things tied to his film appearances that currently have articles.
- Would adding Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame into the nominated topic make any difference since that's where Thanos, the Stones, and the Blip all had their big roles and/or origins? -- ZooBlazertalk 01:48, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
- I'm just not seeing it, but I won't argue against it, if it makes sense to others. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 00:17, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

- Support: I feel like this could warrant an topic since the articles all have the most relevant in-universe information on Thanos. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.114.99.107 (talk) 16:34, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Friendly oppose. While it's good work improving the topic and the art of how broad a topic needs to be to "qualify" as a potential FT/GT is vague, I think this is on the side of too narrow. I think that at minimum, Thanos himself needs to be the centerpiece of the topic, not necessarily the MCU version. And yes, I know that comic-Thanos is both far less famous and notable than the MCU version while simultaneously having all the usual comic-character issues of there being just tons of sometimes contradictory plot to go over in an article, so I understand it's a potentially tough assignment. It wouldn't hurt to have Jim Starlin and Infinity Gems as GAs as well, although those could be argued. SnowFire (talk) 03:59, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose per Snowfire and Rutherford, these articles imo should be reserved for broader topics, seeing as articles are limited per no. of topics. The nomination imo falls into the content forking guidelines.
@FGTC coordinators: Can one of you please archive this? I'm withdrawing the nomination and just going to focus on other potential topics instead. ZooBlazer 00:48, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
