The nature of comics as a cultural medium requires a slightly different burden of notability than the rest of Wikipedia may have to offer.
However, editors of comics-related articles must realize that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate list of information, and adjust articles accordingly, updating, merging or deleting content where it is questionable.
Too many comics-related articles are simply long character biographies and plot summaries which are not conducive to the encyclopedic nature of the website, we can leave the fanwikis to serve that purpose.
The purpose of this page is to help provide a guideline for which comics-related articles belong in solo article form, in a list, or the trashcan.
Characters and teams[edit]
Solo articles[edit]
A character or team is presumed notable and warranting of a solo article if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Have had, at any point in time, a solo comic book series longer than a one-shot. Example: Gambit, Batman
- Featured prominently in an animated/live-action series or movie of a comic book property (e.g. not a cameo).
- Covered in a more than trivial manner in a published secondary source (WP:GNG).
List candidate[edit]
A character or team qualifies for inclusion on a list if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
- A supporting, non-trivial character in any comic book series. May appear just once or infrequently. Example: Jack Drake, Silver St. Cloud
- A cameo appearance in either an animated/live-action series or movie of a comic book property.
If a character or team does not meet the above criteria, the page should be deleted.
Series[edit]
A series is presumed notable and worthy of a solo article if it meets one or more of the following criteria:
- If a modern series, reliable coverage of a series announcement or interviews with a creative team.
- At least three reviews as per comics review aggregators like Comic Book Roundup in order to gauge reception.
- If a modern series, in the top 50 of an ICv2 or Comichron top monthly comics list or more than 50,000 copies sold.
- If an older series, coverage in reliable secondary sources.
- Has been nominated for or won an Eisner or Harvey Award, or equivalent award in another country.
