The "Similarities to Dragon Ball" Section Should be Removed

I posted this on the talk page of 666 Satan but it appears this is where I actually need to post it. Initially I said I'd delete the section if no one improved it by December but that was mainly in attempt to draw attention to it as I was unaware there was even a wiki project for the page:

The case is extremely weak and, unlike the "Similarities to Naruto" section, is uncited. Currently the case for similarity is that Jio and Ball's training under Kirin is similar to Goku and Kuririn's training under Roshi and King Kai.

• Although the first two points are valid, they're not strong.
  • The similarities between Kirin and Roshi end at the fact that they're both hermits.
  • Training with weighted backpacks isn't an idea unique to Dragon Ball and the training methods used with the backpacks aren't similar.
• The next two points aren't even valid.
  • Catching an animal is a common training method, even in America. In Rocky II Mickey has Rocky catch a chicken to increase his speed. The point of catching Jajamaru was mainly to force Jio and Ball to use team work where as catching Bubbles was a solo task.
  • Saying that Serpent Road resembles the path to Kirin's is something that must be cited or elaborated to have any validity. As it stands I fail to see how they resemble each other.
• The final point is valid although since Kirin is noted as the parallel to Roshi and not King Kai, it's weakened.

As per the aforementioned, 666 Satan inherently shares aspects of its story with the manga series, Dragon Ball. Examples of such include, but are not limited to:

• Jio Freed and Ball were trained by someone whom was considered to be a hermit (Kirin), much like Son Goku and Kuririn were trained by the turtle hermit, Muten-Rôshi.
  • As an extension to the above, during training with Kirin, Jio Freed and Ball wore weighted backpacks on their backs, much in the same way as Son Goku and Kuririn wore weighted turtle shells while training with Muten-Rôshi.
  • In addition, Jio and Ball's first training exercise was to catch the pet of their trainer, Jajamaru, whom was very fast. This is very much in the same way Goku had to catch North Kaiō's pet monkey, Bubbles, as the first part of his training.
• On their way to see kirin, Jio and Ball had to travel along a path that resembles serpent road
• When Jio first saw Jajamaru, he mistook him for Kirin. Similarly, Goku mistook Bubbles for North Kaiō.

Responding to a post from Ancientanubis in my user page:

I'm in support of removing the section rather than improving it; however I can think of a two ways to improve it, more points and stronger points. Not very helpful huh? OK I'll try to fix it as best I can. Assuming you're set on keeping what you already have, there are two options. You can elaborate on the current points or you can rearrange and reword them so they look stronger.

I'll focus on rearranging because it's easier:

• Jio and Ball's training holds many parallels to the training of Goku and Kuririn.
  • They were both trained by someone considered a hermit; Jio and Ball by Kirin, Goku and Kuririn by Master Roshi.
  • Jio and Ball's second exercise involves weighted backpack, similar to Goku and Kuririn's final exercise which involved weighted turtle shells to be worn on their backs. (this is honestly kind of a stretch for a point and should be removed as the actual task they preform with the packs isn't even close to similar... my memory of the training is fuzzy but didn't both Roshi and Kirin first make them do the task without back packs? If so that should be added... also I forgot if the backpack thing was Jio and Balls final task, if so change second to final)
  • (You should probably have a 3rd point and this is all I can think of off hand) Kirin and Master Roshi both gave their students a total of three challenges.
• Additionally Jio's training under Kirin, viewed independently of Ball, has several elements in common with Goku's training under King Kai.
  • The paths Jio and Goku must take to reach their respective masters are similar in appearance
    • (a sub point here describing how the paths are similar would be a good idea, or a side by side picture of the two paths would be even better, or even just citing a chapter of each that displays the road)
  • When Jio meets Jajamaru he mistakes him for Kirin. In a near identical blunder Goku mistakes Bubbles, King Kai's pet monkey, for King Kai.
  • Upon finally being introduced to their masters, the first task both characters have is to catch their master's pet.

Other than that I think you could make a good case for Ruby sharing a similar role to Bolma, at least in the early part of the series. You still won't ever have anything as strong as almost lifting facial expressions from Naruto.Bbobjs 01:01, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
